What is tallow?

Tallow is a pure, nutrient-dense, and shelf-stable fat made by rendering beef suet — the firm, clean fat found around a cow’s kidneys and loins. During rendering, the raw fat is gently melted and purified to remove any impurities, resulting in a creamy, opaque fat that’s solid at room temperature.

This particular fat is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with fatty acids that closely resemble our skin’s natural sebum. Its dense nutrient profile and mild scent make it the perfect foundation for deeply nourishing, bioavailable skincare.

Is tallow good for skin?

Absolutely! The benefits of tallow for skin are plenty. Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with fatty acids that closely mimic the structure of our skin’s natural sebum (oil). This makes it incredibly compatible with human skin — it absorbs easily, supports a healthy barrier, and helps the skin retain moisture for long-lasting results.

We use tallow because it’s one of the most bioavailable and time-honored skincare ingredients on earth. For centuries, people have used it to heal, protect, and deeply nourish the skin — and for good reason: it works in harmony with your body’s own biology. 

What makes your lotion different from traditional lotions or plant-oil-based creams?

Most commercial lotions rely on water (which requires preservatives), seed oils (which actually lead to the issues you’re using skincare to avoid), and synthetic stabilizers that just sit on top of the skin — you know the feeling. In contrast, our skincare products are created from whole, nutrient-rich ingredients that your body immediately recognizes and readily absorbs — no greasy, slimy feeling afterwards!

We also carefully craft our products with simplicity in mind — each ingredient serves a purpose: to soothe, protect, and restore. Nothing unnecessary, nothing harsh. Another great benefit of tallow, is that it’s shelf-stable and doesn’t require filler ingredients or preservatives!

Does your lotion smell like beef? Will it make me smell beefy?

No! Properly rendered tallow has a clean, neutral scent that’s barely noticeable – even our unscented versions only have the faintest natural note. Almost all of our products are available in different scent profiles for a mild, pleasant aroma to enhance your skincare experience — not to mask a smell, because it barely has one!

Do your products contain synthetic preservatives, water, or synthetic fillers?

No. Our formulas are completely free from synthetic preservatives, silicones, seed oils (even the so-called “luxury” ones), and emulsifiers. By avoiding water and unnecessary fillers, our products stay naturally shelf-stable — preserving the integrity of each ingredient and keeping your skincare as pure and effective as nature intended.

Why does the color or texture sometimes vary between batches?

We work with whole ingredients that change slightly with the seasons — and we love that! Small variations in color, firmness, or scent simply reflect nature’s rhythm. Do your products contain essential oils?

Some of our products have scented variations, but there is an unscented version of the majority of products. Our Sniffle Stick, Blemish Stick, Soothing Balm, and Bug Stick all contain essential oils that serve a purpose — there is no unscented version of these products. Our face-specific products contain no essential oils, if they have a scent is from the plant/resin infusions NOT essential oils. 

🌱 INGREDIENTS + SOURCING

Where do you source your ingredients?

We partner with U.S. farms that raise grass-fed and grass-finished cattle using regenerative methods. Our other ingredients are carefully selected from clean, ethical suppliers and certified organic if that is an option. I personally grow as much of our plant infusions or source them locally.  

Are your products vegan or cruelty-free?

None of our products are tested on animals, but they are not vegan since the majority contain tallow or other animal-based ingredients. We do, however, honor the animal by using every part. 

What’s the best beef tallow for skin?

When looking for the best beef tallow for your skin, always choose products made with grass-fed beef tallow — it has a higher density of the essential nutrients your skin loves so much and less skin-damaging, polyunsaturated fats!  

Not all cows are raised the same, therefore not all tallow is created equal. The quality of every ingredient depends on how it was grown/raised and how it was processed — which is exactly why we carefully source all of our ingredients. We only source from pasture-raised cows, which have a higher quality of life and contribute to a healthy, thriving environment — making grass-fed tallow a better choice for your skin AND the world.

How should I use grass-fed beef tallow skincare?

Can I use grass-fed beef tallow skincare on my face?

Yes! Our tallow lotion is gentle and non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores) for most skin types. It supports the skin’s natural lipid barrier, helping balance both dry and oily complexions.

Will beef tallow clog pores or cause breakouts?

No, tallow is considered non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores). Tallow’s structure is similar to human sebum, so it helps normalize oil production rather than clogging pores. Still, we always recommend patch testing first if your skin is very reactive.

How long before I notice results?

Most people feel a difference immediately or within a few days — smoother, softer, more hydrated skin. For deeper repair or long-term issues, use consistently for the best results.

Is tallow skincare safe for kids?


Yes! Tallow is completely natural and made up of many of the same building blocks as our skin – exactly why we love it! Our tallow lotion (especially Sensitive Skin version) is gentle enough for all ages — from babies to adults. It’s wonderful for supporting healthy skin and calming irritation.

Our skincare line was actually started by creating a product for my young daughter! When I couldn’t find a product that would help her severe eczema and soothe her diaper rash, I created our first batch of Whipped Tallow Lotion. 

Is beef tallow skincare safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Generally yes, though we always recommend consulting your healthcare provider, especially if you’re using a scented version with essential oils. Our sensitive skin formula is a beautiful choice for all stages of life.

Can tallow skincare heal eczema, psoriasis, or keratosis pilaris?


Our products aren’t meant to diagnose or treat medical conditions, but many customers have found relief from dryness, itchiness, and redness thanks to tallow’s natural vitamins and anti-inflammatory properties.

Personally, it helped my own daughter’s severe eczema more than anything else we tried. 

🌼 PACKAGING & STORAGE

What is the best way to store tallow skincare products?

Our products are shelf-stable at room temperature but be sure to store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If your lotion softens in warm weather, simply let it firm up again in a cooler spot. For seasonal products like Tallow Sun Protection, you can store them in the fridge to increase the overall life of the product (and give it an enjoyable cooling effect!). NEVER LEAVE PRODUCT IN A HOT CAR – this will destroy products by causing them to melt – ruining the amazing fluffy consistency and changing the way it smells.

How long do beef tallow skincare products last?

This depends on the specific product. Products containing water (After-Pool Spray, Hydrating Mists, Magnesium Lotion, Face Masks, etc.) should be used within 3-6 months. Fat-based products should be used within 9-18 months – as long as you keep the container free of moisture or other contaminants. Keep products in good condition as long as possible by keeping dirty or wet hands out of the jars!

How do the paper tubes/sticks work?

Our tubes are all push up — like a kid’s push pop! They can sometimes stick the very first time you try to use it, especially the larger tubes (Tallow Deodorant Stick or Bug Repellent). If the contents get too soft making it difficult to use, you can always put them in the fridge or a cooler place to get them to harden up again.

Do you recycle/reuse?

Yes! I happily take back all glass jars and bottles to clean and reuse.  All our products in cardboard tubes are BPA/plastic free and can be composted!

Do you ship year-round?

Yes. We package carefully to withstand temperature changes, but please bring your order inside promptly during hot summer months to avoid melting.

Do you offer returns or exchanges?
